Curtis Alvin Knutson, age 102, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at Oakwood Village. He was born on March 3, 1917, in Livingston, Wis., the son of Alvin and Lulu (Sturdevant) Knutson. Curtis graduated from Montfort High School in 1936. He married Myrtle Smithback on Feb. 22, 1946 in Madison. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Curtis retired from Oscar Mayer in 1979. He enjoyed woodworking and spending time at his cottage in Hayward. Curtis is survived by two daughters, Linda (Dean) Peterson and Sherrie (Jan) Loomis; son, Steven (Donna) Knutson; 9 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and great-granddaughter, Kjersti. A funeral service will be held at ROSELAWN MEMORIAL PARK, 401 Femrite Drive, Monona, at 11 a.m. on Thursday August 22, 2019. Memorials may be made to St. Jude and Heartland Hospice. He and Myrtle were good neighbors for over 60 years. We had fun playing with his 3 kids, especially in the playhouse he built. I always loved the lilac bushes he had on the side of the garage. He made our Mom a beautifully carved and polished wooden coat rack, which she uses every single day. Missy Kusuda

I met Curtis 3 years ago at OM Retirees party at Innkeeper in Waunakee. I sat with him because he looked so lonely. He sat there an hour or so waiting for some of the people that he used to work with to stop & talk to him. He was a very nice sweet man . I will miss seeing him at the next get-together.

I just saw the notice of your dad passing. I am so sorry for your loss. I met your dad over 40 years when I worked with Sherri . I was in your wedding and my ex-husband and I drove to Denver when you and Jan lived there. I lost track of you and haven't talked to you since then. I am now Joanne Cotter and again I am so sorry for your loss.

I am the cardiac nurse practitioner that Mr Knutson visited every six months. I always looked forward to this kind and personable man. I also got to know his lovely wife before she passes. When Mr Sebastian turned 100 years old, he had an appt and we shared a cupcake. I visited him at his home shortly after I retired. He gave me a beautiful polished wood table he had made. His passing has left a void in the world. Rest In Peace kind man.
