Eleanor Johnson

MADISON-Eleanor Rose Johnson passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017, at St. Mary's Hospital with her family at her side.  She was born in Stoughton on Dec. 30, 1921, to Delbert and Martha Brickson. Eleanor grew up in Cottage Grove. She married Lymen, the love of her life and best friend on Jan. 16, 1943. They lived in Cottage Grove before moving to Madison in 1990.  After raising her children to school age, Eleanor worked at Red Dot Corp and Quality Inn until retirement. For many years she and Lymen enjoyed camping in Wisconsin, snow birding in Florida and playing cards with friends and family.  She loved to cook and her family loved to eat it!! The main ingredients were butter and love. She always put the needs of her family before her own.  We all learned to cherish every moment with her.  She will be greatly missed.  Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Cheryl; son, Ken (Cyndy); grandchildren, Jessica (Marvin) Gayle, Joshua Johnson, Jennifer (Clint) Cecil and Jillian Johnson; great-grandchildren Jay, Callie-Ann and Darius Gayle and Luther Cecil; sister-in-law, Delores Johnson; her cat, Kozy; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Lymen; her parents; siblings, Lorraine Kluever, Billy, LaVerne, Marv and Eugene; and many sisters and brothers-in-law.  Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017.  Lunch will be served immediately following the service.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Dane County Humane Society or the charity of your choice.  A special thank you to the staff of St. Mary's Hospital for their kind and compassionate care.
