Patricia Hoppe

MADISON – Patricia “Patty” Hoppe, age 64, died on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022, at Agrace HospiceCare, after fighting ovarian cancer for two years. Pain management was a consistent battle; by the end she was using oxygen and rarely left the house. It was her time to go. She now rests peacefully in heaven. Patty was born in 1957 in St. Paul, Minn. She attended college at UW-Eau Claire and earned an MA in school psychology from UW-Stout. She met her husband, Dave, in graduate school—they were married for 38 years. “Ms. Patty” worked for school districts in Evansville and Madison as a child psychologist. She is remembered by friends and colleagues as an empathetic, reliable, and radiant “giver” who, more often than not, subsumed her own needs to attend to those of others. Patty worked with many students in Madison who, to say the least, needed extra attention and care. She took on leadership roles near the end of her career and was active in the historic Wisconsin teacher’s strikes as a proud union member. She is survived by her husband, four siblings, and two sons. A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2022.
