Obituary

WAUNAKEE - Dean E. Hewitt, age 86, of Waunakee, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022, at St. Clare SSM Hospice House in Baraboo. He was born on Nov. 21, 1935, in Madison, the son of Eber and Agnes (Dolan) Hewitt.


Dean graduated from Madison East High School in 1954.  After graduation, he married his high school sweetheart, Judy Voss, on Aug. 13, 1955, in Madison. Soon after, he was drafted and served in the U.S. Army, spending time in the Panama Canal zone.


For over 34 years, he worked in the service department at Madison Gas & Electric. He was a member of the East Side Businessmen's Association and The Elks Club.


He loved traveling, camping and spending weekends at the cottage on the Rock River.  Dean stayed in touch with his high school friends and loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. When not spending his time with family, Dean enjoyed the daily newspaper crossword and all the other puzzles.


Dean is survived by his daughter, Terri (Jeff) Williams; six grandchildren, Matthew (Mallory) Hewitt, Brian (Brooke) Hewitt, Jayson (Megan) Hewitt, Ross (Morgan Walsh) Hewitt, Ben (Megan) Williams and Lexi (Aaron) Hill; five great-grandchildren; sister, Joyce Mooney and brother-in-law, Pat Mooney; his companion of 16 years, Delores Minor and her loving family; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Judy Hewitt; and two sons, Tim Hewitt and Ted Hewitt.


A private burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park.


A special thank you to SSM Home Hospice staff and nurse, Jodi, and to SSM Health Hospice House staff in Baraboo, and nurse, Tina, for all of their care and support. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dean's name to SSM Health Hospice House in Baraboo or SSM Health at Home Hospice.
