Joyce C. Hermanson

MADISON - Joyce Catherine Hermanson, age 99, of Madison, passed away on February 13, 2026, at St. Mary's Hospital. She was born on March 9, 1926, in Verona, the daughter of George and Katherine (Maurer) Doerfer. Joyce grew up on a farm in Verona and every morning was always on a race with her siblings to be the first to take the cream off the milk.

Joyce graduated from Verona High School. She was united in marriage to Stan Hermanson on November 2, 1946, at St. James Lutheran Church in Verona. Their marriage was a loving partnership until Stan’s passing when Joyce was 66 years old. Later, Joyce made her home at Oakwood Village, where she spent 23 years building a close-knit circle of friends. Over the years, people came and went, but she remained a warm and steady presence in the community.

Joyce had a lifelong love of cards, puzzles, quilting, and crafts. Holidays were always special to her and were joyfully celebrated with the entire family. She enjoyed golfing-earning a memorable hole-in-one-and she also loved to bowl. Whenever her children visited, a game of cribbage was almost guaranteed. In her later years, declining eyesight made card-playing more challenging, but she continued to enjoy the companionship and connection it brought.

Joyce is survived by her son, Scott (Allison) Hermanson; daughters, Joanne (Alan) Glissendorf and Janice (Ron) Kaufman; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stan Hermanson; parents, George and Katherine; sisters, Jean (George) Hanson and Doris (Robert) Davis; and brother, Richard (Beverly) Doerfer.

A memorial service will be held at OAKWOOD VILLAGE EAST, 5565 Tancho Drive, Madison, at 1:15 p.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2026.
