MIDDLETON-Charles J. Hansen, "Jerry," 90, passed away peacefully, by his wife's side, on Monday, November 20, 2017. He was born January 20, 1927 in Racine to the late Anna and Harold Hansen.  He attended St. John Nepomok Grade School and graduated from Racine Horlick High School.  A proud WWII Navy veteran, Jerry served on the U.S.S. Bunker Hill in the Pacific Theatre at the young age of 17, surviving the largest kamikaze attack in naval history. He proudly wore his Bunker Hill cap everywhere.Ever ready with a joke and hearty chuckle, Jerry kept family, friends, and even strangers laughing up until his final moments.Jerry had a long banking career in Madison and retired as a Senior Vice President at Valley Bank.A devoted family man, Jerry will be deeply missed by his wife of 61 years, Gerry, daughters Debbie (Ed) Kunz and Barb Hansen (Frank Stifter) of Mendota Heights, MN; six adoring grandchildren who already miss his "Grandpa kisses": Megan (Nick) Uhlenhake, Edward Charles, Molly & Betsy Kunz and Sam & Greta Stifter; his surviving sisters all of Racine, Marian Beyer, Margie Tyle, Phyllis Wishau and Jeannie Wishau, and many nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.In addition to his loving family, Jerry leaves behind a tremendous legacy of bravery, generosity, humor and perseverance. He will be cherished and remembered forever.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CHURCH, 402 S. Owen Drive, Madison at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, with Monsignor Kenneth Fiedler presiding.
