Obituary
MONONA- Philip E. Gorman, age 95, of Monona, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 27, 2018, at his home. He was born on August 6, 1922, in Madison, the son of Martin and Johanna (Gordon) Gorman. Phil grew up on a farm in Fitchburg and graduated from Edgewood High School in 1940. He was united in marriage to Gladys Landsness on July 14, 1945. Phil worked at the Bowman Dairy until he purchased the Dairy Queen Restaurant (located at Monona Dr. & Cottage Grove Rd.), after several years, Phil then purchased Midwest Carbonic Co. and lastly owned and operated Washington Equipment Co. that his son, Kevin now operates. Phil and Gladys are members of Holy Mother of Consolation Catholic Church. He truly loved being with his family and will be dearly missed by his wife, Gladys of 72 years; sons, Greg (Lesa) Gorman, Gary (Mallory) Gorman and Kevin (Marilee) Gorman; 10 grandchildren, Emily (Greg Kuczynski) August, Natalie (Steve Bertram) Gorman, Katie Gorman, Grant (Betty) Gorman, Conrad (Nicole) Gorman, Philip A. Gorman, Patrick Gorman, Adam Gorman, Laura (Kody) Parman and Daniel Gorman; five great-grandchildren, Ariana, Genevieve, Dominic and Sullivan August and Timoteo Gorman; and sister, Mary Fauerbach. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, John; brother, Thomas Gorman and sister, Helen Milton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at HOLY MOTHER OF CONSOLATION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 651 North Main St., Oregon, at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, with Father Gary Wankerl presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday. The family would like to thank the staff at Senior Helpers, Oakwood East, Agrace HospiceCare, and especially Mary Beth Ball for their kindness to Phil in his final days.

Gorman family: I was saddened when my brother told me of your loss. Phil was such a delightful person and such a good friend to our entire family. I have many fond memories visiting his home while I was growing up and playing with his family. He will be missed. My sincere condolences.

One of my favorite memories of Phil Gorman was from a cold, snowy morning in early December when I showed up at the Gorman Christmas tree farm with my bow saw and tractor/wagon to cut a Christmas tree. It was a year off for the Gorman Christmas tree sales, but Kevin and Marilee, Gary and Mallory had told me to come anyway to cut one. I thought I was alone and unseen among the balsam and fir trees. Suddenly, Phil approached me and in his gruffest voice barked, "What are you doing here? Don't you know that these are our trees?" After what seemed an eternity to me, he added with a twinkle in his eye, "Why don't you go across the street and cut one of George Gabrielse's trees down--they are well pruned you know!" That to me was classic Phil Gorman and I've been chuckling ever since. I was blessed to know him and the wonderful family who surrounded him. Stuart Knechtle
