Edward "Ed" J. Folger

MONONA-Edward Joseph Folger, age 81, went to be with his wife, Kathleen in the kingdom of God on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016. He was born on Sept. 27, 1935, to Edward C. and Lucille (Wilma) Folger. He grew up with his brother Richard in Milwaukee, where both played football and graduated from Messmer High School in 1954. Ed was also a boxer in high school and never lost a match, earning his golden gloves. In 1959, Ed married the love of his life, Kathleen Elizabeth Scallon. The two moved to Monona, where Ed, a U.S. Air Force veteran, worked on the flight line at Truax Field for 35 years. Ed's love for football continued throughout his life. He coached the Silver Lions for many years with his longtime friend, Bob Storm. He also coached the Pee Wee Packers for 34 years, including coaching his grandson in his last year. Ed was a devoted Badgers and Packers fan. He also loved playing sheepshead with the guys and going for coffee and donuts with his friends at the Heritage. But his greatest moments were watching and supporting his four grandchildren in all of the sports and activities they were involved in. Ed was a devoted Catholic and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish for 51 years. His strong faith was passed on to his children and grandchildren. Ed is survived by his three children, Debra (Michael) Kreigh of Monona, Linda (Michael) Schimanski of McFarland and Edward C. Folger II of Stoughton; four grandchildren, Christina Kreigh of Dodge Center, Minn., Andrew Kreigh of Madison, Maxwell and Noah Schimanski of McFarland; brother, Richard (Gail) Folger of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; and brothers and sisters in law, Gerald (Sharon) Scallon, James Scallon and Marilou Jeffcott. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen; and his parents. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016, with Father Chad Droessler presiding. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park with military honors. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare, Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church or to the family in Ed's name.
