Obituary

MADISON - Theodore “Ted” Femrite, age 93, of Madison, passed on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Agrace HospiceCare surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 27, 1931, in Madison, Wis., the son of Theodore and Garlin (Rowin) Femrite.


Ted graduated from Madison East High School in 1950. Following graduation, he served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War receiving the Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars and the United Nations Service Medal. On Aug. 6, 1955, he married Betty Lou Day in Madison, who he had met at the Hungry Hungry Root Beer Stand in Monona.


Ted worked in Administration for the State of Wisconsin Department of Transportation, retiring in 1989. After retirement, he held a number of part-time jobs until the age of 80. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, working on stained glass pieces, being outdoors, trips to the casino and spending time up north. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.


Ted is survived by his son, Donald (Lisa) Femrite; daughters, Terri (Randy) Tuggle, Jacqueline (Richard) Epstein and Patricia (Timothy) Kraus; sister, Sharon (Joe) Orzechowski; grandchildren, Josh Femrite, Heidi Dettman, Alexandra Femrite, Kyle Femrite, Jason (Sarah) Tuggle, Jennifer (James) Fahey and Justin Baker; 11 great-grandchildren; and special friend, Donna Gehrke.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty Lou; sisters, Arline Schmitt and Yvonne Timm; and granddaughter, Juliana Epstein.


A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2024. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park with full military honors. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday.
 

Ted's family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff of Agrace HospiceCare for the kind and compassionate care they gave him. Memorials to Agrace HospiceCare would be appreciated by the family.

Ted was one of my favorite people to work with at WI DOT. He always had a smiling face and made my day so much better. When we would meet in the Hall he always brightened my day. I have only seen him once in all the years since we retired. But even then he brought back all those good memories. My heart goes out to all of you.

Dear Donny, Terri, Jackie, Patty and their families; My sincere condolences to all of you on the passing of your Dad. Ted AKA Uncle Ted and My Godfather was such a quiet, gentle, thoughtful, kind, hardworking and always upbeat person with a nice sense of humor, I just loved him and your Mom so very much, they were so much fun to be around. At family gatherings, Ted always stood out to me because always had a video camera in hand to document our growing families as we enjoyed each other’s company, ate delicious food and drinks with deafening laughter in the background, those were really fun times. I am sorry I will miss the opportunity to attend Ted’s memorial, Military honors ceremony and the opportunity to see all of you but know that you’re in my thoughts and prayers. Ted was such a special human being and It was such a blessing for those who knew and love him to have had his company for 93 years. I will miss him and he will be in my heart forever. Its comforting to know he will soon join his love of life, Betty, RIP Dear TED
