Obituary
MADISON - Kenneth James Eckles, age 79, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at Agrace HospiceCare, after declining health of liver and lung cancer the last couple years. Kenneth was born on Jan. 17, 1943, in Hinsdale, Ill., the son of Robert C. Eckles and Dorothy E. Luce Eckles.
Kenneth was united in marriage to Maria Quinones on June 10, 2004. He worked as a custodian for UW Hospital and Clinics for 10 years.
Kenneth will be fondly remembered for his great sense of humor. He loved fishing, hunting, camping, cooking and dancing. He enjoyed watching old westerns, especially Gunsmoke. He was very social and enjoyed visiting with his friends. He loved the time spent time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Kenneth is survived by wife, Maria; sons, Kristofer (Amanda) Eckles and Jason R. (Kristine) Eckles; stepson, David (Sandi) Patterson; stepdaughter, Lavinia A. Jimenez; grandchildren, James and Madison Eckles, Gabrielle and Greyson Eckles, David Patterson, Jose A. Bastida, Daniel E. Bastida, David M. Nelson and Joshua Kachlic; nieces, Stefanie Togati, Caylee Bonello and Cary Croissant; and nephews, Will Monday and Doug Monday. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dorothy; brother, Robert “Butch” Eckles; sister, Gale Eckles-Monday; and aunt, Mildred Gruendler.
A celebration of life will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 15, 2022.
The family appreciated the care and support of the staff of Meriter Hospital. A special thanks to Kenneth’s primary physicians, Dr. Kathryn Miller, Dr. Michael Bassetti, Dr. Ravi Patel and Dr. Dan Mulkerin and to Agrace HospiceCare for their wonderful care.
