Doris A. Elmer

PRINCETON-Doris A Elmer, age 92, of Princeton, formerly of Madison, passed away on Friday, Dec. 30, 2016, at Martha's Retirement Home. She joined her husband, Max the day before his 96th birthday. Doris was born on Dec. 8, 1924, and raised by her grandparents, Harry and Mary Ellen Sweetwood. She married Max Elmer on Nov. 27, 1943, in Monroe. Doris was a member of the VFW Auxiliary for 24 years, as well as a member and past officer of the McFarland American Legion Auxiliary. She was a very talented needle worker and loved nature and animals, giving a home to many stray animals. Doris will be remembered as being very accepting of everyone, witty and always putting others first. Doris is survived by daughters, Mary Ellen Wollin and Betsy Lee (Don Siebert) Elmer; six grandchildren, Max Dunn, Bonnie Kurtzweil, Arlene Dunn, Andrea Hansen, Kih Bergin and Kala Bergin; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, with a VFW Post No. 7591 Auxiliary Pass and Review at 11:15 a.m., followed by services at 11:30 a.m., on Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, with the Rev. Dr. Mark Yurs presiding. Burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
