Obituary
MADISON-Winifred Jane "Win" Eide, age 103, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2018. She was born on Jan. 9, 1915, in Lancaster, the daughter of William and Florence (Addison) Welsh. She married Leroy Eide on June 3, 1949 in Chicago. Win was a devout Christian and an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was an original member of the Marion Circle and helped in the church library. Win loved nature and working in her garden where she raised beautiful plants and flowers. She was a charter member of Olbrich Garden Club and volunteered at the flower garden library. Win was very social and developed close relationships in her neighborhood where she lived for 55 years. She never missed the show Wheel of Fortune, and in her later years, learned to paint, and found that she loved it. Win is survived by her children, Donna (Chuck) Studee and John (Susan) Eide; grandchildren, Andy (Laura) Studee, Paul Studee and John Eide, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Aspen Eide, Joshua Studee and Wesley Studee; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leroy; and sister, Vivian Wiest. Funeral services will be held at TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1904 Winnebago St., Madison, at 12 noon on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019, with the Rev. Rodney Nordby presiding. Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to Olbrich Botanical Gardens. The family wishes to extend a sincere thanks to all of her Maple Avenue friends who have done so much for her in her late retirement years and also to the staff and residents at St. Mary’s Care Center. We all loved Winn and will miss her wit and wisdom. I enjoyed her phone calls, when she would accidentally call our phone number and we would talk for 20 minutes. My lemon tree is strong and healthy because of her advice.

Will remember her beautiful soul forever. Her mind was sharper than mine many times. Loved how much she loved the oranges I would send her and she would eat them peeling and all! My condolences to her family.

I had the good fortune to know Win for 23 years. My favorite memory is when she described the day her Dad reported to the draft board when the US entered World War 1, and how relieved they were when he was told to go back home and raise as much food as possible. Win was only two and a half at the time. Win was a neighborhood treasure who will be remembered fondly for many decades.

I met Win through her work at the State Department of Health and Social Services Library. She came to the monthly meeting of our state agency librarians over many years. After she retired I would bring her to the annual Christmas lunch of this group until she was well into her nineties. I always enjoyed our conversations about her family, work and her volunteering at Ohlbrick's library. She was a remarkable woman. I am very sorry for your loss.
