FALL RIVER - Elizabeth R. “Liz” Derleth was born in Watertown, Wis. on September 7, 1940, the daughter of Clark and Ella (Schlueter) Derleth.


Elizabeth graduated from Watertown High School in 1958 and went on to earn her degree in accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1962. She dedicated an impressive 46 years of service to the State of Wisconsin, contributing her expertise across several departments, including the Department of Revenue, Health and Social Services, the Department of Industry, Labor and Human Relations, the Department of Administration, and the Department of Employee Trust Funds.


In her retirement, she devoted her time to volunteering with several organizations, finding genuine joy in meeting new people and continuing to learn from life’s experiences. She had a passion for baking, especially brownies, blondies, and lemon bars, which she delighted in sharing with friends, often as thoughtful surprises or simple gestures of gratitude.


She had a deep love for her cats, Tuffer I, who was her companion for 13 years, and Tuffer II, who stayed by her side for more than 22 years. Both were independent and a bit stubborn, traits that suited Liz perfectly. Those who knew her well might say she shared that same spirited determination and candid, outspoken nature. One of her favorite sayings was PAL: Patience, Acceptance and Love. All three things were taught to her by her beloved cats.


Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert (who died at birth) and Jerry. She is survived by wonderful friends, many who were in AA, a program that saved her life and taught her a new way of living which is the ‘life of giving.’


The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the many compassionate medical professionals who cared for her over the years. She faced several health challenges that required attention, and each time she was met with outstanding care and kindness, for which they are truly grateful.

As with anyone else who knew her, Liz shared so many great life messages and lessons. Not the least of which was, when she retired, she stated she intended to help as many people as she possibly could for the rest of her live long life. That message was not lost on me. I have since retired and I intend to do the very same thing. She taught me well. Fly high Liz with your cat angels. I will carry your smile in my heart forever.-d'neece.

I was so lucky to have Liz come into my life. She became the mom I didn’t have. She taught me to love and care for others, stand up for myself and live life as it comes. I will miss her solid advice, her laugh and her love. I’m certain she is still watching over me. Love you Liz💕💕

Liz was a great friend to me for a long time. She was my supervisor over 50 years ago and we kept in touch all of these years. She was a great supervisor who never made anyone feel that their question was bad. She taught me a lot and was always willing to listen to my concerns long after I left the job to take care of my children. I enjoyed the times I took her to appointments and we would have lunch and visit after them. She was a blessing to our family and always interested in what they were doing and so good to them. I will always miss her but will cherish the memories of times spent together. May she rest in peace without her earthly struggles. Love you Liz, Carmen Kruschek
