Obituary

MADISON- Eleanor Crosby, passed away on Friday, Sept. 22, 2017. She was born on April 13, 1920 in Knapp, Wis. to Emily and Jack Thatcher, parents she was forever grateful for.  She married Edward Crosby, also of Knapp, on July 4, 1937. Together they shared 62 years of marriage and two sons, Ed and David, who filled her with pride. Eleanor loved their wives dearly, Patricia (Ed) and Jan (David), believing they were “just perfect” for her boys. Eleanor’s grandchildren, Rick, Teri (Don) and Sheryl (Marty) consider themselves truly blessed to have had such a kind and loving influence in their lives. Her “greats,” Danielle, Barrett, Taylor, Trey, Mckenna and Riley, are fortunate to also know the depth of her unconditional love. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband in 1999; parents; eight siblings, in-laws, nieces, nephews and dear friends. She is survived by her sons, and their wives; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and additional nieces and nephews. Ed and Eleanor made Monona their home beginning in 1952. Eleanor worked in the service industry, retiring from the Holiday Inn as a banquet server after 25 years. She enjoyed traveling with friends and family, both in the states and abroad. After retirement, Ed and Eleanor made Florida their winter home, always appreciating the fresh air, water and sunshine. She returned to Knapp to attend the family reunion every year for the first four decades of its existence. Eleanor was a skilled seamstress and wonderful cook. A talented dancer, she never lost her rhythm or love of music. Reading was a passion and gift she refused to take for granted. An avid card player, she achieved gold master status in bridge and wouldn’t dream of shying away from a round of euchre, 500 or kings in the corner. More important to Eleanor than the game were the people she shared the table with. The epitome of a role model, Eleanor will live on in each of us whenever we choose to say or do the right thing. We will never forget her unwavering optimism, congeniality and generous spirit. Eleanor and her family had tremendous appreciation for the individuals that cared for her later in life. We would like to thank Oak Park Place, Heritage Senior Living and Agrace Hospice for their compassionate care. Please join us in a celebration of Eleanor’s life at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 12 Noon, on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017. Time for visiting and sharing memories will begin at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Eleanor’s name may be made to the Friends of Monona Public Library.
