Obituary
DEFOREST-Lila Kathryn Bowers, age 93, of DeForest, passed away on Monday, Sept. 25, 2017 at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born on June 16, 1924, in Wallace, N.C., the daughter of George and Elma (Norris) Hansley. Kathryn graduated from Clement High School in Wallace, N.C., a fact she was very proud of. She married Robert Bowers on Dec. 20, 1951, with whom she shared over 50 happy years. Kathryn worked as a nursing assistant for Colonial Manor Nursing Home for 18 1/2 years. She loved the outdoors, camping, gardening and fishing. She was also a talented seamstress, loved music and dancing, and was a collector of beautiful and unique hats. Kathryn had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to travel and tell stories of her adventures throughout the years. She was an avid Packers and Duke Basketball fan. Kathryn proudly supported our military and was very proud to be the wife of a service member. Mostly, she loved her family, especially the grandkids and great-grandgirls. Kathryn is survived by four daughters, Patricia (Gary Sr.) Moyer, Kimberly (Darcy) Grimesey, Bonnie (Lonnie) Lenzendorf and Amanda Bowers; six grandchildren, Robert (Angela) Lenzendorf, Tamara Lenzendorf, Gary Moyer Jr., Kristina (Adam) Schintgen, Terry Bowers and Michael (Tessa) Lenzendorf; five great-grandchildren, Mariah Lenzendorf, Ellie Lenzendorf, Lily Schintgen, Raelynn Lenzendorf and "one on the way"; special niece, Bobbie Jean Florence; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; two sisters, Dorothy (Tommy) Morris and Melva (Robert) Booth; nephew, Hillary Booth; as well as other extended family and in-laws. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 12 noon on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017, with the Rev. Sandra Schieble presiding. I was saddened to learn of the passing of "Aunt Kathryn", who I haven't had the opportunity to see for many years. Unfortunately, distance limited our communication to cards at holidays. My mother, Dorothy, was her oldest sister.
Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss and take comfort in knowing that her long life has left you with memories that you will cherish for years to come.

Our deepest sympathy on the passing of your Mother/Grandmother. A spunky, thoughtful, dear sweet friend of ours over the past 20 some years. Had many good times and visits with Kathryn and Bob, past years our Christmas cards and yearly phone call after New Years. She talked fondly of her family and always so proud.

Our sympathy is with you all on the passing of your Mother and Grandma Kathryn. I have many fond memories of Kathryn and Bob growing up with them as our neighbors across the fence with my parents Dan and Ellen Carlson. I can still see her gardening in the hottest of summers and many smiles at the fence with my parents. May she rest in peace with Bob. Caring thoughts Rob Carlson

Was honored to be Lila's doctor for many years. Always looked forward to her visits: I would tell her what I thought she should do to stay healthy. She would thank me then politely indicate that she was going to do what she darn well wanted and we'd see how things turned out. They always seemed to turn out pretty well, even on those few occasions when she actually took my advice. After I retired, 3 years ago, we still exchanged Christmas cards, and I'm not sure what I'll do this year when there isn't a card from her by December 1st. My condolences to her family. I am saddened to think that Lila's not in our world anymore. She was quite a gal!
