Obituary
MADISON - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Doris Elaine Burger, on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at her home surrounded by family. She was born June 25, 1929, in Chicago, the daughter of Frank and Victoria Boltz.
She spent her childhood with her brother growing up in northern Wisconsin before moving to Badger Village (so her parents could work at Badger Ordnance) graduating from Baraboo High School in 1948. She loved that time of her life.
Doris moved to Madison, working at Oscar Mayer, when she met and married Roy Burger on September 4, 1954. They built their home and raised their three children on the east side. Mom was a happy homemaker, faithful member at Lake Edge Lutheran, the neighborhood Avon lady, worked the polls and was an active volunteer for many activities.
Doris was a fun loving spirit always up for an adventure. She enjoyed bowling for many years (attending Nationals in Las Vegas), traveling, spending time up North with family, and the occasional casino.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Susan (Jeff) Thompson; sons, David and Jim (Kathy) Burger; grandchildren, Sarah, Alex, Nicholas, Ryan, Josh (Gurmala) and Angie; and great-grandchildren, Aiden, Lily, and Jai. Also very dear to her were her sister-in-law, Ann Boltz; Lea Burger; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy; brother, Dick Boltz; and nephew, Paul Boltz.
A funeral service will be held at LAKE EDGE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4032 Monona Drive, Madison, at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, with the Rev. Justin Dittrich presiding. Burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.
The family would like to thank her good friend, DNeece, the staff of Agrace HospiceCare and Peg for all of their wonderful care and support. Doris was fortunate to be able spend the last seven years in her own home thanks to the care provided by her daughter and son-in-law.
