Richard L. Bolen

MCFARLAND/DEFOREST-Richard L. “Dick” Bolen, age 82, of McFarland/DeForest passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at Evansville Manor.  He was born on Aug. 7, 1934, in Wauwatosa, the son of Eula (Fredrickson) and Hobart Bolen.  He married Nancy Bonfield on Aug. 4, 1979, in Waunakee.  He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, and served in the Korean Conflict.  Richard loved life, his wife, his family, his friends, his pets, telling stories and chocolate malts. He always considered Viroqua, "God's country," home and was a graduate of Viroqua High School. Richard grew up with a fond appreciation of all of nature, and the majority of his hobbies and activities revolved around the outdoors, from hunting and fishing to the immense pride he took in his lawn. Richard held many jobs in his lifetime, but his favorite was his time at Lake Windsor Country Club.  He was a very social person, enjoying visits with old friends and making new ones. Richard is survived by his wife, Nancy Bolen of McFarland; children, Mark (Sharon) Larson of Viroqua, Rick (Joni) Larson of Viroqua, Serena Walters of Lodi, Rick (Lisa) Bolen of Black River Falls, Christina Ragle of Spokane, Wash., Shane (Tricia Kuska) Frutiger of Deerfield and Trevor (Katie Chadwick) Bolen of Cottage Grove.  He is further survived by his brother, Larry Bolen of LaCrosse; uncle and dear friend, Bill (Bev) Fredrickson of Green Bay; sister-in-law, Lynn Bonfield of Waunakee; brother-in-law, Art Volkmann of Ripon; 15 grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and many cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Bill and Jean Bonfield; brother-in-law, Dave Bonfield; sister-in-law, Sue Bonfield Volkmann; and nephew Bradford Bolen.  All are welcome to celebrate Richard's life on Sunday, June 11, 2017, between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the NITTY GRITTY, 315 E. Linnerud Dr., Sun Prairie, with military honors at 5 p.m.  The family would like to thank Evansville Manor for the exceptional care and kindness shown to Richard.
