Obituary
MADISON-Marvin Barkhahn, age 90, of Madison, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2016.
He was born on Dec. 20, 1925, in Cross Plains, the son of Emil and Mary (Martin) Barkhahn.
Marvin married Sylvia Hauge on May 29, 1953. He worked maintenance for the University of Wisconsin for 17 years, retiring in 1989 and was a founding member of Messiah Lutheran Church. Marvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and playing games with his family and friends. He and Sylvia enjoyed being Snowbirds. Marvin is survived by two daughters, Sharon (Albert) Hofstetter and Darlene Barkhahn; two sons, Steven Barkhahn and David (Sandra) Barkhahn; sister, Marian (Ron) Moeller; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife, Sylvia; his parents; and a sister, Lela Kittleson. Funeral services will be held at MESSIAH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5202 Cottage Grove Rd, Madison, at 12 noon on Friday Nov. 11, 2016, with the Rev. Jeff Vanden Heuvel presiding. Private entombment will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. My father was a great father, grand-father, and recently great grand-father. He had a lot of patience, that I prayed I would have, also. I liked holding his hand because it always seemed so smooth and strong. I cherish the memories of our family traveling to most of the continental United States. He enjoyed working outside and in his garden. I felt he could fix anything, including radios and T.V.s. He enjoyed playing cards including Euchre and Dirty Clubs. After his father died, he supported his mother and sisters early by taking over as man of the household and working the farm. He could talk with anyone. My father would help anyone. He will be greatly missed. Love you, Sharon and Albert

Grandpa was my favorite grandpa! My favorite time to visit Grandma and Grandpa was in the summer months when us grandkids could sleep in their 5th wheel camper, eat in their screen porch room, climb his fruit trees, and get rides from him on his riding mower! We would hide at the end of the weekend so we wouldn't have to leave! And Grandpa, in case you didn't know, it was me who wrote "I love you" in black sharpie on your basement wall (I was little) (sorry about that). Love you, Gramps!
