CAMBRIDGE- Ellen R. Appledorn passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 11, 2020. She was born on Jan. 1, 1922, to Andrew and Anna (Mickelson) Thompson. She grew up in the farming community of Keyeser, Wis. Ellen married Theodore “Ted” Appledorn on Sept. 19, 1942. They had two children, Duane and Linda. Ellen enjoyed playing Euchre, shaking dice, camping, dancing, and all things Norwegian including lutefisk and lefse. Virtually every Christmas season she could be found making homemade lefse. She was also famous for her homemade potato salad and apple pies. She decided at the age of 65 it was time to get her driver's license, so a favorite destination was up to HoChunk with her sister and sister-in-law, and she continued to drive up until the age of 90. Ellen is survived by her son, Duane (Jill) Appledorn; daughter, Linda (Bob) White; granddaughters, Sherry Appledorn, Shelley (Dave) Kolosso, and Tracy Pace; two great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Ted; parents; siblings, Alice (Elmer) Sutherland, Betty (Ernie) Strander; Leroy (Betty) Thompson, Harold (Wilma) Thompson, Ernest (Pearl) Thompson, Thomas (Buella) Thompson, and Sidner (Cora) Thompson. The family is grateful for the care Ellen received at Our House in Cambridge, Wis. and to Heartland Hospice, with special thanks to Lori Fehringer for her very special care of Ellen. A graveside service from which you can participate and remain in the comfort of your vehicle will be held at SPRING PRAIRIE LUTHERAN CEMETERY, N509 County Highway C (corner of Hwy DM and Hwy C), DeForest, Wis. at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 1, 2021. I have fond memories of Ellen going back to the early 70's when I first met and worked with her daughter Linda in Madison. I remember Ellen's laughter and great sense of humor, something her daughter inherited from her. Ellen is at peace now after living a very long life and is probably still laughing with loved ones who have passed before her.
