Obituary
MADISON - James Raymond Tollers, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at Oakwood Village West. He was born a triplet on Sept. 19, 1942, in Superior, Wis., the son of Rudolph and Opal (Jodell) Tollers.
James was a member of Lutheran Church of the Living Christ, an usher at the Civic Center, a proud Cub Scout leader and a Mason. He loved to travel all over the country, liked fishing, archery and playing cards, and enjoyed outdoor sports. James was a weaver and a potter. Having a knack for growing tomatoes, he was widely known at Oakwood as the "tomato man.” What he loved most about his pottery, weaving and growing of tomatoes was that he always had something to give to people. He had a spark and always enjoyed whatever he was doing.
James is survived by his brother, Vincent (Martha); sister, Kim (Linda Olver); and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Warren (Barbara), Joseph, Paul, Gary (Susan) and Jeffrey (Victor Sabido).
A service will be held at LUTHERAN CHURCH OF THE LIVING CHRIST, 110 N. Gammon Road, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 29, 2021, with the Rev. Daniel Kowert presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the start of the service. Burial will be at Forest Home Cemetery in Fifield, Wis.

I knew James as Jimmy, my dad's right hand man when he ran The Northwoods supper club in Fifield. For a short while, Jimmy was like the big brother I never had. As I remember, Jimmy sort of came with the place when it was purchased from the former owners by Amos Kolve. He knew all its ins and out and history. It seemed like he was almost always there, one of the first to arrive and last to leave each day. He was very close to my dad and when we left and my dad (Ross Copper jr.) was restauratuer-ing in The Dells, Jimmy joined him there. Then he was there to help us say good bye to dad when he passed away. Jimmy helped ease the pain by sharing many many warm and humorous memories that eased the pain of loss, and I got to introduce my friend to my wife and son.

Jim, a true friend, with a heart of gold, was kind, thoughtful and giving to others. He brought us so much joy, laughter, love and many tomatoes. He was, always, there for us. The memory of Jim, arriving on his scooter, to play pinochle, will be forever. Just his presence, made the game and time together, much more fun. We were blessed to have had Jim, in our lives. We, all, loved Jim!! He will be missed, greatly!!

Jimmy, myself and a small number of friends were privileged to grow up in the small town of Fifield Wisconsin, located in the northcentral part of the state. We spent many hours fishing and swimming in the Flambeau river. Jim was the best swimmer in our group. He could hold his breath for long periods of time and swim amazingly long distances under water. We had good times playing cards, board games, especially monopoly at the Toller's house. Jim's parents owned a restaurant in town, called Cozy Town. I remember helping Jim peel fifty pound gunny sacks of potatoes, then processing them into French fry's for the restaurant. Sneaking our father's twenty two caliber guns out of our houses so we could go off into the woods and target practice. May God allow your spirit to soar through this wondrous universe. Have a great journey. you will be missed.
