Obituary

MIDDLETON - Joan Hanson Morrick, 90, of Middleton, Wis., went to her heavenly home in the afternoon on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, with her loving husband by her side. She was a doting wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and Christian. She was a faithful woman who loved the Lord and her family.

Born on March 8, 1933, Joan was welcomed to the world by Harry and Ida Hanson. She graduated with honors from Madison East High School in 1951.  As Joan would proudly inform you, it was the largest graduating class from East High of all time.  Joan was united in marriage with Robert “Bob” Morrick on Aug. 25, 1951, in Madison. From this union they had eight children to which she was the most dedicated mother. She graciously went on to spend her time in the church as an executive secretary. A model of generosity, intelligence, and devotion, a true Madison native.

Joan had many talents, interests and hobbies throughout her long life.  To name a few: playing violin, cross country skiing, biking, canoeing, square dancing and more. Her hands were always busy creating the best clothes and most delicious food. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will fondly remember and carry on her legacy of making dozens and dozens of Christmas cookies, even the undeniably tedious pfeffernüsse. As a girly girl, even if she had dirt on her knees or flour on her apron, she still had polish on her nails.

Joan made holidays, birthdays, and important events feel most special. She put her loved ones first and would always show up with the biggest smile. She’d cherish a bouquet of dandelions as if it were two dozen red roses.  Memories like homemade root beer, board games, cards and long road trips singing Mairzy Doats in the car will be held close to hearts for eternity.

Those left to cherish Joan in her memory include her husband, Robert Morrick; children, Steve (Elsa) Morrick, Terri (Ken) Curt, Bill Morrick, Don Morrick and Jody (Randy) Van Tassel; grandchildren, Derek Morrick, Amanda Morrick, Branton Curt (Monica Mendez), Toree Morrick, Alyssa Curt, Kaitlin Morrick, Bianca Bakkar, André Bakkar and Sebastian Van Tassel; and great-grandchildren, Jonah Lander, Olivia Lander and Skye Curt.

Joan is now reunited in Heaven with her parents, Harry and Ida; her brothers, H.D. Duke and Gaylord “Bud”; her daughters, Michelle, Tammy and Lisa; and grandsons, Justin Curt and Adam Bakkar.
