Carol Lubke

VERONA - Carol Diane Lubke died peacefully on Aug. 27, 2024, at Four Winds Manor in Verona, Wis., where she had been a resident since 2019. Carol was born on Aug. 31, 1933, on Chicago’s north side to Carl and Dorothea (Lueders) Hitchcock.

Living not far from Wrigleyville, she became a lifelong Cubs fan along with her sister, Joyce. She graduated from Amundsen High School in 1951 and subsequently earned a degree from the National College of Education. In 1956, Carol married Victor Lubke in Evanston, Ill. They raised their family in suburban Chicago until 1969 when they relocated to Janesville, Wis. and later moved to Madison as empty-nesters.

Carol volunteered for several years for the American Red Cross in Madison. One of Carol’s joys was tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. This interest led to her organizing a gardening club at the All Saints community where she resided. She took pleasure in having family gathered around, and her compassionate heart was evident. Carol was an outstanding cook, seamstress, and provider of wisdom. Her acquaintances appreciated her dry humor and wry wit.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Victor, in 2018 after 62 years of marriage; and by her sister, Joyce Carlson Pogue of Decatur, Ill. She will be remembered and dearly missed by her three children, Wayne (Betsy) Lubke of Burnsville, Minn., Douglas (Jayne) Lubke of Edgerton, Wis., and Kathy Pientka (Kevin Morrow) of Madison, Wis.; along with her six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
