Obituary

MADISON - Edith B. “Edy” Paske, age 89, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2023, at Nazareth Health and Rehabilitation in Stoughton. She was born on Dec. 20, 1933, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Leo and Ailie (Niemi) Baumann. Edy’s mother, Allie, died when Edy was nine. Edy was in an orphanage and foster homes until her father, Leo, married Helen when Edy was 12 years old. Edy graduated from Lake Geneva High School.

Adventure took Edy to California, where she worked at various jobs, Bell Telephone and Lockheed Aircraft among them. At 30, she found Up With People, an organization that truly changed her life. Between the ages of 30-37, she traveled with them and assisted in organizing housing and education for the high school and college singers in their show.

At age 38, Edy returned to the Midwest to work in Chicago and that is where she met and married the love of her life, Arthur “Art” Paske. Together Edy and Art owned and operated an appliance store in Lodi. They had a loving relationship until his early passing.

Edy worked for the State of Wisconsin for many years until her retirement. She always enjoyed taking on new tasks and worked hard to advance in her career. She was a member of Midvale Lutheran Church and their women’s Covenant group.

Edy enjoyed scrapbooking and getting to know people. She had a wonderful close group of friends who enjoyed spending time together. She adored cats and always had one to keep her company.

Edith is survived by her sister, Kathryn (Ron) Curio; brother-in-law, Jim Cottrell; five nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Ailie; stepmother, Helen; husband, Art; and sister, Vivian Cottrell.

In keeping with Edy's wishes, no services will be held.

Edy was a very close family friend. She was a very good friend for of my mom (Fran) for nearly 50 years. They had a special friendship, I’m sure they are sharing a cinnamon roll and catching up in the next life… Rest in Peace, Edy, Love, Kathy
