Thomas D. Murphy

DE FOREST/MIDDLETON/ARENA-Thomas Dean Murphy, age 69, passed away on Monday, Feb. 13, 2017 at his home in DeForest.  He was born on August 28, 1947, in Madison, the son of Earl and Gladys (Stebnitz) Murphy.  Tom was united in marriage to Mary Haas on August 31, 1968 in St. John's Church, Spring Green.  A 1965 graduate of River Valley High School, Tom went on to earn his degree in Accounting from Madison Area Technical College and thus began TDM Accounting.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970.  Tom enjoyed auto racing, Badger Sports, golf, watching westerns and driving his Corvette but he truly treasured most the time his spent with his family, especially his grandkids of whom he adored. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mary Murphy, sons, Richard (Rebecca) Murphy, Ryan (Amber) Murphy; grandchildren, Warren, Mimi, Declan and Austin; brothers, Francis, Bob (Donna), Earl (Marie), sisters, Gladys Smith, Janet (Stan) Wetter, Pat (Merle) Leifer; sister-in-law, Sharon Murphy, Kitty Murphy; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard (Judy) Haas and numerous nieces and nephews.  Tom was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Jerry, Wendell, Harlan, Donald (Marilyn), sister Rosemary (Roger Griffin) (Edward Olson), brother-in-law, Joe Smith and sister in law Joanne Murphy.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 7450 University Ave, Middleton at 11 AM on Wed., Feb. 22, 2017 with Father Brian Wilk presiding.  Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL & CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017 from 4 Pm until 7 PM and also at the church on Wed. from 10 AM until the time of the Mass.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the UW Carbone Cancer Center or Agrace HospiceCare, Inc.
