MIDDLETON - Marie C. Michaels passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg, at the age of 88.
Marie was born on January 31, 1937, in Plain, Wis., to Joseph Haller and Agnes Beer. She grew up on a farm in Plain and attended Saint Luke’s School through high school and graduated in 1955. Marie married James T. Schwartz in 1956 at Saint Norbert’s Catholic Church in Roxbury. They lived in Westby where Jim worked at Tri-State Breeders. They moved to Middleton, Wis., in 1967, where she stayed until 2024.
Marie was a member of Saint Bernard’s Catholic Church and sang in the choir for many years. The choir traveled to Europe during the 1970s. Marie moved to Dimensions in Living in Stoughton in December 2024. She worked for the Middleton Cross Plains School District as a cook for many years.
Marie and Jim had four children, Greg (Joy), Kevin (Jackie), Diane and Eric (Stephanie); seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Bill Haller, Mike Haller, Elsie Witmann and Millie Seaman; and her first husband, James, who died in 1971. She was remarried to Raymond Michaels in 1981 for 26 years. He died in 2007.
Marie loved her family more than anything and enjoyed cooking holiday meals and special occasion cakes, especially her Easter lamb cakes. She also liked going to the theater and seeing shows. Niel Diamond was her favorite singer and she got to see him live on several occasions. On her 80th birthday she had front row seats to see him in Iowa. She loved her house and all the squirrels that visited the yard. She was a big collector of toys and loved going to garage sales looking for treasures. Marie will be greatly missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 7450 University Ave., Middleton, at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 21, 2025. Burial will take place at St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery on Branch Street in Middleton. A visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Friday.
