Obituary

BLACK EARTH - James L. Miller Sr. age 93, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2025, at Greenway Manor. Born in Dayton, Ohio on June 10, 1932, he was the son of Loren and Esther Miller.


James enlisted in the military and served in the U.S. Air Force then became a U.S. Army recruiter, where he was nominated for the Outstanding Young Men of America in 1968. James was a Flight Speech Champion in the Barksdale AFB, LA Speech Competition. During his time in the military, he lived in many different places which included Bermuda, Canada, Georgia, Texas, Alabama, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Washington, D.C., where he worked for the Pentagon for two years. He was a very good singer and enjoyed singing. James was in a quartet during his time in the military. While in the military, he was an instructor who taught instrument flying in the classroom. After 30 years of service, he retired from the Air Force. After retiring, he worked as a personnel manager in Mount Horeb. James also found great joy in volunteering at Heartland Manor Nursing Home, which is where his wife, Faye, was in Black Earth. James and Faye lived in Cambria, Wis., for 30 years.



James is survived by his son, James Miller Jr.; longtime companion, Janice Reindl, and her four daughters, Lisa Parrel, Angie Reindl, Mary Frey and Michelle Danz, and their families; and good friend, Mike Dolittle. He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye (Lockhart), whom he was married to for 65 years; his children, Janet McLean and Scott Miller; and his young friend, Cory Reindl Mellum.

So sorry for your loss. I met Jim when he and Janice would come to Grandma Mary’s Cafe. I also had a business doing in home care for elderly. That is when I got to know Jim the best as I went to his home and clipped his toenails for him. He was a super soul! He sure loved his Faye. May Jim Rest in Peace. Friend Tina Zander
