MIDDLETON-Janet Ruth Mier, age 89, passed away on November 3, 2017. She was born on August 30, 1928, in Madison. Ruth graduated from Madison West High School in 1946. Ruth was married to Arnold Mier in 1950. She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church of Middleton. Ruth belonged to the Daughters of the American Revolution, enjoyed gardening and worked for the Wisconsin Dairy Herd Improvement Assn. (WDHIA). Ruth was a very involved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her children, Janet (Wayne) Dykstra, Joanne (Joseph) Faust, Gary (Karen) Mier and Jeanne (Ernest) Frie; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Mier, brothers, John Hurd, Robert Hurd, Richard Hurd, and David Hurd; and sisters, Vernona Linley and Carol Gessler. A Celebration of “Ruth’s” Life will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL & CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton at 11 AM on Thursday, November 9, 2017. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017 from 4 pm until 7 pm and also on Thursday from 10 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the MOMS (Middleton Outreach Ministries), 3502 Parmenter St., Middleton or to the Alzheimer's and Dementia Alliance, 517 N. Segoe Road, Madison, WI 53705. Lance I will remember Ruth along with Arnie. She was a loving and always happy and upbeat. We loved how they would just show up on our doorstep on their travels and stop for awhile to visit. She will be missed.

I'm not feeling well and so will not be able to make the funeral but wanted to express my deepest condolences to her family and friends. We will miss Ruth who always loved to laugh and was such a pleasure to be around.

I will always remember going over to Aunt Ruth and Uncle Arnie's House. I remember the times when She would show my Brother and I "Shark's teeth." I don't think they were real ( but we thought they were). Our visits were always filled with love and laughter.
