Obituary
WAUNAKEE/MIDDLETON-Virginia A. Kuschel, age 94 of Waunakee, passed away on Friday June 30, 2017 at Waunakee Manor. She was born on April 18, 1923, in Manitowoc, the daughter of Albert and Regina (Larson) Anderson. Virginia was united in marriage to the love of her life, Leonard Kuschel on June 12, 1948 in Manitowoc. She attended Manitowoc schools graduating from Lincoln High School. After graduation, she attended Lutheran Deaconess School of Nursing in Chicago receiving her RN in 1945. She went on to have a successful nursing career at various Madison area healthcare facilities and retired from St. Mary’s Hospital at age 72. Ginny enjoyed reading, cooking, antiquing with friends, collecting ceramic cow creamers and having Christmas, Thanksgiving and other special holiday get-togethers with family and friends. Her passion was spending time with her grandchildren and giving of her time to help with family and friends in their time of need. Ginny is survived by three sons, Bruce (Theresa) of La Crescent, Minn.; Eric (Barbara) of Defiance, Missouri; Todd of Cross Plains; grandchildren, Brandon, Brittany, Alyssa (Adam); nieces and nephews, Cindy and Bill Wiedholz and their children Amanda, Matt and Audra and many other wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brothers, Harold, Vernon, Willard and Noel and sisters, Elaine and Elinor and several nephews. Ginny was a wonderful mother and person who was loved by all. She was a compassionate and very caring nurse and woman who was not afraid to help family and friends, always going out of her way to do the right thing. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am. on Friday July 7, 2017, at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL & CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton. Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens following the service. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday July 6, 2017 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., and also on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Waunakee Manor. The family wishes to extend a special thank you for Virginia’s wonderful care from the staff of Waunakee Manor. Ginny, as I knew her lived upstairs from us in Middleton on University Avenue. She and Len were the best neighbors we ever had. Having Bruce, Eric and Todd was great because my brother Tom & I really enjoyed having other kids so close to play with. Ginny was like a second Mom. I ran into her here and there over the years and we always had a great conversation. She was a blessing in my life and I'm so grateful to have known her and the Kushel family.

I worked with Ginny for many years at St. Mary's Hospital. When we worked together, we knew almost without speaking what our next moves were going to be. I loved working with her.
Ginny and I had our ears pierced at the same time, had similar surgery close together, had a son named Todd, and our sons, Todd, got married the same year.
She was wonderful to my husband and myself when our son, Todd, was killed in a car accident.
Ginny was a kind, gentle, compassionate Angel. She likes to have fun but was always a lady. I feel blessed to have known her. My prayers and thoughts are with her family.

I had the great honor and privilege of working with Ginny at St. Mary's on 6 West. As an LPN, I found her to be a knowledgeable mentor. She was an excellent role model for all staff. Ginny will be a welcome addition to nursing services in heaven!

Ginny was my Aunt, her husband Len was my Dad (Victor)'s younger brother. At the time of my Dad's passing she shared some nice stories about him and Len in their younger lives. She was a very generous, caring person and always made us feel welcome in her home, even though our visits were sometimes many years apart.

I also had the privilege of working with Ginny on 6 West at St. Mary's! In fact, she was one of my preceptors when I started there in 1989. What a wonderful, wise nurse! I learned so much from her and always enjoyed working with her. I will never forget her! I know heaven gained an angel :)
