Obituary

Madison - Dorothy J. Jeschke, age 85, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2023, at Oakwood Village West. She was born on Nov. 3, 1937, in Madison, Wis., the daughter of Stanley and Edna (Polglase) Smyth.


Dorothy graduated from Middleton High School. Prior to retirement she worked for General Casualty Insurance, Verex, and then T.D.S. Telecom. At General Casualty, she worked with the very first computers, and was among the first to learn the original computer language, Fortran. By the time she retired from T.D.S., she was a systems analyst III.


Dorothy loved being a mother and raising her family in the country. She enjoyed gardening and canning home-grown foods, as well as knitting and crocheting, and she was an avid reader.


After retirement, Dorothy loved traveling. Among her favorite adventures were her trips to Ireland and China. She was also a huge fan of Badgers football.


Dorothy is survived by her sons, Gregory (Carmen) Jeschke and Kurt (Carrie) Jeschke; daughter, Erika (Jeff) Winchel; grandchildren, Samuel Jeschke, Joshua Sromovsky and Elijah Winchel; and her siblings, Jeanne Dean, Judy Cornelius, Janet Grosse and Diane Bright. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Dean Smyth.


A celebration of life will be held from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2023, at Oakwood Village West, 6205 Mineral Point Road, Madison. Visitors should enter the Heritage Oaks building. At the reception desk look for signs to the Nakoma/Westmorland rooms just around the corner.


The family wishes to thank the staff at Oakwood West and the Oakwood Foundation for extending care and generosity during Dorothy’s 12 years with Parkinson’s disease, as well as Agrace for their support.

She was the sweetest neighbor anyone could ask for. I remember her bringing us a cup of hot chocolate when we were waiting for school bus in below zero weather. Our driveway was 5/8ths a mile long. We were certainly cold when she gifted us

I'm so sorry to hear this. I didn't know Dorothy had passed away. She was in my wedding & a dear friends in the 60's. We met at General casualty, where she taught me computers. All my love dear friend. Genne
