MIDDLETON/MCFARLAND-Bernice Agnes Hutter, age 88, of Middleton and McFarland, passed away on Friday, Dec. 21, 2018, at McFarland Villa. She was born on Oct. 17, 1930, in the Town of Franklin, the daughter of Vincent and Evelyn (Volk) Hutter. Bernice was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Middleton and volunteered for church dinners and at the Middleton Senior Center. She enjoyed shopping and a lifelong passion of collecting Hummels. Bernice could be seen walking all around the Middleton area. Bernice is survived by her sister, Joan (Fred) Schoepp; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Camilla Engelberger. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 7450 University Ave., Middleton, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 28, 2018. Burial will be held at St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Friday. The family would like to thank Bernice’s niece, Jenni Haight and the folks at McFarland Villa and Heartland Hospice for their loving care of Bernice. Bernice was a wonderful person. She worked for the State of Wisconsin for many, many years and through her attention to detail and frugality, saved the State thousands of dollars. She was very dedicated to her job and the people with whom she worked. I was one of the people fortunate enough to know and work with Bernice and I consider my life richer for that experience. I worked with Bernice 30 years ago when I first started working for the state downtown. She was the sweetest lady and such a hard worker. She rode the bus to work like I did. I always enjoyed talking with her. I remember she would come to work on her birthday to drop off donuts, and then she would take the day off to shop. I’m so glad I worked with her for almost 6 years. My Aunt Bee was a constant presence in our home growing up. She was the kindest, gentlest person, but hard when she had to be. She was quirky, but both of us being perfectionists, we had a special understanding of those odd quirks. One thing I will always remember was her love of walking.
