Obituary

MADISON - Lois Jane Armitage, age 94, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at McFarland Villas. She was born on Sept. 23, 1929, in Readfield, the daughter of Adolph and Alvina (Luedtke) Spitzer.


Lois graduated from Washington High School in New London, Wis. She was united in marriage to Donald Armitage on Oct. 7, 1950, in Wisconsin. They were lifelong Cubs fans.


Lois was fondly known as "Little Lois" at McFarland Villa. She was tiny but mighty. Lois always put her family first and loved her daughters and grandkids. She was an organist and attempted to share that skill with her grandkids, though it did not stick. Lois enjoyed square dancing, playing games and euchre and watching Wheel of Fortune. Lois was a lifelong member of the Ladies Guild.


Lois is survived by her daughters, Sandra (James) Allen, Donna (Marty) Gallagher and Paula Richards; son-in-law, Jay Hoover; grandsons, Chris Allen, Denton Richards, Joshua Richards, Cody Richards and Taylor Richards; granddaughters, Tracy Allen, Jessica Gallagher, Shannon Gallagher, and Stephanie Hoover; great-grandchildren, Jonah Allen, Paige Reff, Parker Richards, Denton Richards III and Damron Richards.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Adolph and Alvina; husband, Donald; daughters, Linda Hoover and Debra Armitage; brother, Edwin Spitzer; and son-in-law, Denton Richards.


A funeral service will be held at OUR REDEEMER LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1701 McKenna Blvd., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024, with Pastor Philip Moldenhauer presiding, followed by a luncheon at the church. Burial will be held at Dale Union Cemetery, 9121 Wisconsin Ave., Hortonville, at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, April 8, 2024. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.

We spent many a Farm Bureau meetings with Don and Lois over the years. She was truly a dedicated wife and partner to Don in all the meetings he attended. She either came along with him or stayed home to take care of their family. I always enjoyed our visits and time together. Darlene Arneson
