Obituary

DEFOREST- Marion Elfrieda Pulsfus passed away on Friday, July 14, 2017, at the age of 101, at Good Samaritan Society in Lodi, Wis. Marion was born on Feb. 18, 1916, in Arlington, Wis., to Fred and Mary (Stiemke) Manthe. She graduated from Columbia County Normal School. Marion taught school in a one room country classroom, until she married Rodney Pulsfus on June 5, 1943. In addition to being a homemaker for many years, Marion worked in the Del Monte Canning Factory cafeteria in Arlington and retired from the DeForest location of American Breeders Service. In her younger years, Marion enjoyed crafts of all kinds including teaching leathercraft in her home. She was always making some beautiful treasure for someone to cherish: doilies, Afghans, quilts, Christmas tree skirts, ornaments, holiday decorations of all kinds. Marion enjoyed gardening and taking care of her flowers, canning and freezing goodies for her family to enjoy. She always had a jigsaw puzzle on her table and exchanged puzzles with many family members. Marion and her sister-in-law and best friend, Alice Lanzendorf, went out for morning coffee multiple times a week and would attend all the local parades in the summertime. Marion and her husband, Rodney, drove to Arizona to visit their daughter, Mary, annually for many years. After Rodney passed away in 1985, Marion flew to Arizona multiple times to visit Mary and her granddaughter, Megan. Marion enjoyed decorating for all the holidays and appreciated having her daughter, Pat, in the area to spend all the holidays with. She loved having season tickets to Fireside Dinner Theatre and attending all the shows with her daughter, Pat, for many years and would always comment, “now that was a nice day.” Marion was a lifetime member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and was an active member of Ladies Aide, Altar Society and Lutheran Women’s Missionary League while residing in Arlington. Marion was a resident at Parkside Assisted Living for five years and enjoyed every minute of it. The activity director, Brian, kept her very entertained, she faithfully attended the daily morning exercise activity, all the afternoon craft activities, and bingo on Saturdays. Her favorite was Wii bowling. She enjoyed reading the romance novels from their library. Marion is survived by her daughters, Mary Kolb of Phoenix, Ariz., and Pat Pulsfus of DeForest, Wis.; and granddaughter, Megan Kolb of NYC, NY. Marion was loved by all and will be greatly missed by everyone who had the pleasure to cross her path. When asked at the age of 101 what her secret to her long life was, she replied “a positive attitude.” Marion certainly displayed that and was always smiling and happy and never complained. The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to all of the staff at Good Samaritan Society, Lodi, Parkside Assisted Living, St. Croix Hospice Care, especially Kaila and Kelly, in addition to all the family members and friends that visited her. Funeral services will be held at ST. PETER’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 303 Park St., Arlington, Wis., at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, July 18, 2017. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. Interment will be at the Zion Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

TO Marion's Family. Sorry to hear about Marion, I know that at 101 it should be easy, but she was a great lady, and she will be missed. I really enjoyed our time together for the past 5+ years. She was always there and engaged in the activities and made them that much more enjoyable. I learned a lot from her on how to be a good person and enjoy life. I know this past year has been hard on the family and her as she started to decline, but I will always remember her when she was up walking around and enjoying everyone's company. She will be missed. I am sorry that I am unable to attend the service, work has been keeping me busy. I like my new job, but really miss working with people like Marion. Best Wishes. Brian Munster

I'm so sorry to hear that your mom passed. But what a powerhouse of a woman she has been all her life. No wonder she has such fine daughters, I know you will miss her terribly. Best wishes, Ingrid Halvorsen
