Thomas Paul Carmann

LODI-Tom was born in Portage, WI. to Edith (Ness) and Arthur “Dutch” Carmann. He was a caregiver at an early age for his mother who had polio and was confined to a wheelchair. He was proud of his father who was an operator for the Colsac ferry.  Tom loved animals, especially his childhood cat, Snowball. He enjoyed feeding the birds, squirrels and his froggies at his Lake Point Drive home.  Tom graduated from Lodi High School, where he developed skills for working with tools in shop class. He learned the trade of welding at his first job with Brethorst Welding. Tom was a shade tree mechanic, alongside his brother, Charlie. Together they enjoyed fixing odds and ends in their garage at 113 Grand Ave for neighbors and friends.  Tom was most proud of his flatbed trailers he built from a pencil drawn sketch. He eventually found his way to detailing cars at Bushnell Ford, before retiring due to health issues. Tom went to be with the Lord after 7 years of multiple illnesses on Friday, November 17, 2017. Tom was a member of Dekorra Lutheran church and attended services as long as he was able.  Tom is survived by his 2 nieces, Susan (Stuart) Varner of Rib Lake, Karen (Al) Hudson of Monroe and 2 nephews, Steve Gabbei of Lodi and Dave Gabbei of Milwaukee. He was preceded in death by both his parents and his brothers, Charles and Herbie as well as his sister, Lois (Carmann) Gabbei and brother in law, Donald Gabbei.  The life and memory of Tom will be celebrated with family and friends on Friday, November 24 at Gunderson Funeral Home, Lodi, WI. Visitation will be 4-6 pm with a service starting at 6pm. Pastor Ryan Rouse will be officiating.  Memorials may be given to the Lodi Area EMS, 745 N.Main St., Lodi,WI. “If a man loses pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer.
