Obituary

MADISON - Gloria Jean Hubble, age 78, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022, in Arden Hills, Minn.  She was born in Knoxville, Tenn., to F. Earle and Charlotte Lyman.

On Aug. 25, 1968, Gloria Jean married Phil Hubble at Midvale Baptist Church in Madison.  She and Phil raised two sons, Randy and Cory.  Gloria Jean received an MS degree in Communicative Disorders from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1969. She worked as a speech therapist in the Sauk-Prairie, Middleton/Cross Plains, Verona Area and Belleville School Districts in Wisconsin.

A firm believer in Jesus Christ as her Savior, Gloria Jean was a longtime active member of Madison’s Monona Oaks Community Church.  For many years she organized the transportation of girls to Girls’ Camp at Michigan’s Upper Peninsula Bible Camp, where she served as a counselor.  She went on at least five of the church’s short-term mission trips to an orphanage in Guatemala.  In later years, she worked the AWANA children’s program, assisting children with their memory work.  In addition, she and several women from the church enjoyed many summers playing softball together on the team sponsored by Brickson-Shaw.

In 2016 Gloria Jean and Phil moved to the Twin Cities in Minnesota, where she received excellent care in the memory units of The Farmstead in Andover and Johanna Shores in Arden Hills.   The family is deeply grateful to the administration and staff of both facilities and to the staff of Optage Hospice for their care and love through Gloria Jean’s last years of living with Alzheimer’s.

Gloria Jean is survived by her husband, Phil; sons, Cory and Randy (Betty); and their “adopted daughter-in-law,” Lisa Masino. She is also survived by her sister, Lois (Chris) Burton; niece, Wendy; and nephew, Matthew. Gloria Jean is further survived by her grandchildren, Joshua, Annie, Giana, Tyler, Terra, Moriah, Karalee, Samantha and Antonio; as well as by several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Valerie Lyman; and her granddaughter, Angela Hubble.

A memorial service for Gloria Jean will be held at MONONA OAKS COMMUNITY CHURCH, 6200 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022. A visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.

Donations in Gloria Jean’s memory may be made to: Upper Peninsula Bible Camp, 430 Bible Camp Drive, Little Lake, MI  49833.

We miss Gloria Jean a great deal, but we are assured that she is now in the presence of her Savior, able to enjoy Him completely in her redeemed body and with her redeemed mind.

Dear Phil. We received your news with great joy and with a sense of loss. Gloria Jean was a testimony to the work of the Spirit. Her love for Him, his Word and his people proved it. Although it's been many years since her time at St. Andrew, she is still frequently the subject of happy memories and delightful conversation. I rejoice that she is now with the Lord who lived and died for her and called her his own and I look forward to gathering with her around his throne in glory. God give your comfort as you grieve. Phil, thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I remember you and Gloria from the Faith Baptist days. I also still have fond memories of camp. It was a great place glad she was able to enjoy it up there. Gloria was always happy and nice to talk to. I am the grandson of Bill and Jean. With sympathy Joe Bonfield

Phil, Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as you mourn the loss of Gloria Jean. It's been many years since our time together at Faith, but we have fond memories of times spent together. Gloria Jean strongly influenced me to get involved in Bible Study Fellowship and that profoundly enriched and shaped the rest of my life. I'm so grateful for her persistence in getting me to start that journey. May our Lord comfort you in the days ahead. Lyn Feldmann

I am so grateful to have known Gloria Jean through my friendship with Cory. She was a kind and patient person, loving mother and wife as well as a faithful servant while she was on earth. I know Heaven’s gates swiftly opened to welcome her back home. My love to all of you. Peace, Tina Moll. Mancusi

Gloria Jean was a good friend for many years. I fondly remember the French Horn trios she and I and another friend played in church one Christmas season. She was always willing to help those in need. She will be missed. Kris Lund
