Elizabeth M. "Betty" Schulenburg

CROSS PLAINS - Elizabeth “Betty” Schulenberg passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at the age of 96. Betty was born August 21, 1929, the youngest of 10 children of Louis J. and Elizabeth (Bollig) Brings of Cross Plains, Wis. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church her entire life. Betty married Wilbert Schulenberg on February 26, 1946. Wilbert preceded her in death on September 12, 2003. Betty worked at the Hilltop Inn for six years and at Dairyland (Sentry Insurance) for 23 years in Madison, Wis.

Betty is survived by her children, Hubert “Hubby” Schulenberg and Steven “Steve” (Artis) Schulenberg, both of Cross Plains; grandchildren, Ray (Joylin) Buchanan of Cross Plains, Julie Watson (Chris) of South Carolina, Kathy Schulenberg and Chris (Miranda) Schulenberg of Mazomanie, Kyla Schoenwetter of Middleton and Elisa Southard (Sam) of Appleton; great-grandchildren, Teryn (Grady) Monroe of Madison, Quinn (Sam) Wirth of Cross Plains, Colton (Mariah) Morgan of Baraboo, Arionna (Robbie) Treinen of Sauk City, Isabella Graedel of Mazomanie, Wyatt and Cora Schoenwetter of Middleton, Maggie Watson of South Carolina and Barrett and Leeroy Southard of Appleton; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert; daughter, Charleen Buchanan-Pertzborn; sons-in-law, Ray Buchanan and Mark Pertzborn; daughter-in-law, Paulette Schulenberg; five infant children; her parents and her parents-in-law, Hubert and Catherine Schulenberg; sisters and brothers, Bernadine (Peter) Haag, Francis (Dorothy) Brings Miller, Leona (Matt) Schmelzer, Clarence (Eleanor) Brings Sukowatey, Catherine (Ray Haag) (Reynold) Miller, Rosina (Kenneth) Sailing, Bernard (Mary) Brings, Louis (Loretta) Brings and Cecilia (Leonard) Yelk; and sister-in-law, Roscile (Wilbert) Maier.

A Funeral Liturgy will be held at ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2947 Thinnes St., Cross Plains, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2025, with Father Grant Thies presiding. Burial will take place at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery. Luncheon will follow at the church. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.
