Obituary

MADISON-Howard L. Hasz, age 87, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born June 11, 1929, in Madison, the son of William Henry and Edna Viola (Meyer) Hasz. Howard graduated from Madison West High School in 1947. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from December 1950 to December 1952. Howard was privileged to be part of the Badger Honor Flight on Oct. 19, 2013. Howard met Jean of Greenwood, and they were married at Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison on Sept. 3, 1955. After returning from the service, Howard worked for Evans Radio and TV as a repairman. He then worked for Capital Supply for many years as a salesman. He was then the manager at Tony Franks Taverns, where he retired from full time employment at age 65 and then continued to work there part-time. Howard and his brother, Bill, had two 16-unit apartment buildings which they had built and operated for 20 years. He was a member of The Church at Christ Memorial since 1991. Howard started working part-time for the church in the 1990's. He delighted in getting the church Christmas tree year after year and enjoyed the fellowship of the members. Howard was a member of the American Legion Post 501. He enjoyed camping, boating, and fishing with his family. Howard loved the outdoors and always had a garden. He played many years of fast pitch softball and filled in as pitcher for his son's slow pitch team for many years. Howard loved to play golf and a good game of euchre was enjoyed with relatives and friends. Sports always kept his interest, attending home Badger football games for years as a season ticket holder. He was an avid Badgers sports and Packers football fan. Howard is survived by his loving wife, Jean; son, James (Cindy) Hasz; three daughters, Jill Stoebner, Sandy Hasz and Nancy (Brad) Pierce; 10 grandchildren, Adam (Torrie) and Brandon Hasz, Joshua, Evan, Audra and Noah Stoebner, Jordan, Madison, Zach and Josh Pierce; and sister-in-law, Donna Hasz. Howard was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William; and son-in-law, Michael Olson. Funeral services will be held at THE CHURCH AT CHRIST MEMORIAL, 2833 Raritan Rd., Fitchburg, at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, Sept. 30, 2016.
