POYNETTE-Guenter Schmitt, age 91, passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at Shorehaven Nursing Home. He was born on March 8, 1925, in Wuppertal, Germany. Guenter married Sofie Schoeneberg on March 7, 1948 in Linz Germany. Guenter loved his family and spending time with them. He also loved his dog "Butchie". Guenter is survived by his son, Paul (Carol) Schmitt of Waukesha and his grandchildren, Paul (Sheila Rodenberg) Schmitt and Jessica (Richard Dent) Schmitt. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Sofie in 2015. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at BLESSED TRINITY CATHOLIC PARISH AT ST. PATRICK'S CHURCH, 521 Fair St., Lodi at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 12, 2016 with Rev. Fr. Scott Jablonski presiding. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

Our family was extremely fortunate to be the neighbors of Guenter and Sofie over the past 15 years. They touched our lives with their kindness and wonderful stories. Especially that of their many travels and younger years growing up in Germany.
Sofie always sent us away with chocolates and Guenter would always be ready with a beer:) We will miss them dearly.
