Katy and Alice, I know how hard it is to lose your Mom and please accept my sincere sympathy, but what a blessing your Mom was to you, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and to so many of us her knew her. It was very special when she showed up at my Mom’s funeral many years ago, and also special to be able to touch base with her at Skaalen when I stopped to see my aunt and uncle there who changed their address to Heaven several years ago already.
The things I will ALWAYS remember “Mrs. Oakey” for include the stained glass Christmas candy, her friendly greeting in the Madison Lutheran School lunch line, how faithfully your Mom and Dad were at the PTA meetings to help our class earn the “penny count,” how welcome she always made me feel at your home on Corey St., and what a green thumb she had!
When my Mom died, I was living about 300 miles away. It is still hard not being able to call her on the phone every week, but she is now only a heart beat or a breath away. We will be with them again.
Blessed be her memory.
