Helen Claire Hoopman

Oregon/Fond du Lac-Helen C. Hoopman, age 98, of Oregon, Wis., and previously of Fond du Lac, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016, at St. Mary's Care Center, Madison. She was born on Aug. 21, 1917, in Algona, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Helen Murtagh. She was united in marriage with George S. Hoopman on Jan. 2, 1939 in Cresco, Iowa and they were together for more than 75 years of marriage until his death on March 1, 2014. Helen was a longtime resident of Fond du Lac and resided for the past 10 years in Oregon. She was a devoted member of Holy Mother of Consolation Catholic Church, Oregon and prior to that at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Fond du Lac. In her spare time she enjoyed volunteering for numerous organizations including as a Teaching Aide at St. Mary's Catholic Grade School (especially through reading assistance and in support of the music program) and managing the gift shop at St. Agnes Hospital, both in Fond du Lac. She was a superb cook, gardener, and homemaker. Helen is survived by her son, David Hoopman and daughter-in-law, Katherine Mnuk of Oregon; nieces, Helen (Forde) Kerscher of Los Lunas, N.M. and her family, and Elaine Lybbert of Cresco, Iowa and her family; and numerous friends who also mourn her passing. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Grace M. Forde; and nephew, Gerald Lybbert. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at HOLY MOTHER OF CONSOLATION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 651 N Main St., Oregon, at 11 a.m., on Friday, Aug. 12, 2016, with Father Gary Wankerl presiding. Committal services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at SHRINE OF REST MAUSOLEUM CHAPEL in Fond du Lac. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
