Bertha Hallman

MADISON/MARSHALL-Bertha (Nelson) Hallman, age 99, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2016. She was born in Evansville, on March 18, 1917, the daughter of Jens and Anna (Moe) Nelson. Bertha graduated from Evansville High School. She married Eldon Hallman on June 21, 1947. They lived in Madison for several years and then they moved to Marshall in 1983, until he passed away. Bertha worked in communications for the Telephone Company for ten years before entering the U. S. Marine Corp in 1944, where she served for two years. After her service she worked for St. Mary's Hospital as a nurse's aide, and LaFollette High School in the cafeteria. Bertha also worked at Lowell Hall Switch board. She retired in 1982 from WPS after 15 years of service. Bertha is survived by her daughter, Marjorie Walder of Madison; three sons, Greg (Mary) Hallman of Meridian, Idaho, William (Linda) Hallman of Sun Prairie and Gary (Chrisite) Hallman of Boise, Idaho; four grandchildren, Paul, Trisha, Gavin and Jason; two great granddaughters, Jaidan and Acalia; and her sister, Esther Olsen of Madison. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon Hallman on Nov. 26, 1983; brother, Leonard Nelson; four sisters, Leona Nelson, Clara Blizzard, Alice Rasmussen and Evlyn Beck; and sister-in-law, Delores Nelson. A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016, with military rites conducted. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m.until the time of the service on Saturday.
