Obituary

MADISON- James W. "Jim" Rathbun, age 76, passed away on Aug., 6, 2016 in the comfort of his home with his family by his side. He was was born on Jan. 27, 1940, in Madison, the son of William and Valborg (Olson) Rathbun. After graduating from Madison East High School in 1958, Jim began working at Marling Lumber where he met his loving wife, Faye Braaten. A skilled craftsman, he worked as a carpenter for the University of Wisconsin Physical Plant from 1973 to 2002. A patient and dedicated husband and father, Jim enjoyed spending time with his family whether it be helping his wife tend to their beautiful gardens or navigating the waters of Lake Mendota. He was a loyal supporter of his children and grandchildren in all their activities. Throughout Jim's life, he generously looked to share his carpentry skills by building and fixing things to help others. James is survived by his wife, Faye of 52 years; son, Dan Rathbun of Wayzata, Minn.; daughter, Ellen (Ryan) Sexton of Prior Lake, Minn.; and by four wonderful grandchildren, Ryan, Jenna and Katelyn Rathbun and Adam Sexton. He is also survived by sister, Marilyn Stevenson; and many other family and friends. Funeral services will be held at BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 312 Wisconsin Ave., Madison, at 12 Noon, on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2016, with lunch to follow. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service. A gathering to honor and celebrate Jim's life will be held at WESTSHIRE VILLAGE STRATFORD COMMUNITY ROOM, 5477 Westshire Circle, Waunakee, at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be gifted to Agrace HospiceCare.

Dear Faye, Ron and I were saddened to learn that Jim has passed away. What a gentle and kind soul he was. I was always amazed at what he managed to help you with even as his health declined. We feel lucky to have known him and to have had the two of you in our lives for a bit. Paulette and Ron
