Obituary

MADISON – Margaret Elizabeth Nolen, age 92, went on her last ride Friday July 22 2016, this time to heaven. She was born on August 27, 1923 in Dodgeville Wisconsin as the second of four children of James and Mary Dougherty. She is survived by all of her nine children; Maureen (James) Hansen, Poway, California, Janie (Gordy) Stendahl, Monona, Mark (Janie) Nolen, Fountain Hills, Arizona, Marsha (Mickey) Kaliterna, Allegan, Michigan, Randy (Kay) Nolen, Indian Wells, California, Van Nolen, Madison, Carl (Kathy Hiteman) Nolen, Middleton, David Nolen, Madison, and Lisa Nolen, Monona, as well as so many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Pierce, parents, brothers and sister.  Margaret lived for many years on the Dougherty family farm just south of Ridgeway Wisconsin, where she attended Ridgeway High School and met her true love, Pierce F. Nolen. They went through life together raising a family and operating some of the area's iconic taverns and restaurants; Highpoint in Ridgeway and the Congress Bar and Restaurant in Madison to name a few. Margaret was a wonderful story teller and would share many of her fondest memories, especially of those times in Ridgeway as a young girl and the historic dances that took place. We were the lucky ones to have her as our Mom and loved her dearly. She was so proud of her children, their families and her Irish heritage. She now lives in our memory, forever in our hearts, and will be missed greatly.  A gathering of family and friends will take place on Sunday August 14, 2016 at 9 AM at the GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL & CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Avenue, Middleton. Interment will follow at the Mifflin Cemetery, Mifflin, Wisconsin at approximately 11:30 AM on land owned generations ago by the Nolen family.  The family extends a very special "Thank You" to the wonderful staff at the Four Winds Manor, Verona Wisconsin."May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face. And rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the hollow of His hand."  Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

To the Nolan family - Sorry to hear of your mother's passing. Carl, it was good to meet you last Saturday night. (I was in the 1st band that played). Mark, I haven't seen you in a long time. I looked for you Saturday night after the band packed our equipment with no luck. I remember when we were kids, your family lived on Moland St. and my family lived on Hoard St. My condolences.

To the Nolen Family - Our prayers, thoughts and best wishes are with you...Margaret was such a sweet friend to my Mom Sonia at Four Winds, welcoming her to Wisconsin at a transition time in Sonia's life...I learned a good deal of Ridgeway and Madison history from Margaret, and it was always a joy to see her smiling face when I arrived in Verona...we're thinking of her and you.....Tony Galli
