Obituary

MADISON-Rita (Schellhase) Leverentz, age 86, passed away peacefully after a long fulfilling life on Saturday, July 30, 2016, at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born on Feb. 27, 1930, in Martins Ferry, Ohio. Rita was raised on a farm on Scott's Ridge and graduated from Martin's Ferry High School. Rita married Warren Leverentz Sr. on Feb 24, 1951. She loved to sing, dance and travel. She and her sister were minstrel singers in West Virginia. Rita was a hardworking, strong person. Her heart was always with her family and she loved her husband dearly. She was a member of the Elk's Auxiliary and a longtime member of Bethel Lutheran Church. Rita and Warren developed many close relationships throughout the years. Rita is survived by her sons, Warren Jr. (Bonnie) Leverentz, Steven (Susan) Leverentz and Tim (Carole) Leverentz; grandchildren, Jennifer, Emily, Charles, Steven, Evan, Ava and Michelle; brother-in-law, Verne Penfield; and sister-in-law, Donna Leverentz. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 42 years, Warren Sr.; sisters, Marcella, Evelyn and Marian; and nephew, Scott Penfield. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 12 p.m. Noon, on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016. Burial will be at Verona Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. The family would like to thank Evansville Manor and their staff for many years of wonderful care. Thank you so much for sharing Rita with those of us at Evansville Manor!! Rita and I shared the love of RED lipstick and singing. Even in the last few weeks, Rita could sing any tune Karen or Diana played in the activity room or at meals in the dining room. Such a joy to care for!!!!
