Lived by the Vetter's on Sommers Ave, we lived across the road (My mother Agnes Mullin and me) , it was just Rose, George and Ruth,, We were there for when George passed, After I grew up and got married we stayed in touch with Rose and Ruth, and did some chores for them around the house, After Rose died, we tried to stay in touch with Ruth, but as we moved farther away it became harder. I know they loved animals and remember them feeding the cats in the neighborhood, I could always have a nice discussion with Ruth about our critters that we got from the Humane Society. I hope she rests in peace and her family welcomed her with open arms. Debbie (Mullin) and Glen Foley

Ruth worked with my mother at the state for many years. As my sister and I were growing up we could remember my mother's friendship with Ruth. She was very kind to my mother and my mother appreciated her friendship over the years. Our sympathy to her family and friends. Nancy (Niehus) Barker

Ruth loved her cats, and she supported the comfort, care and compassion that Dane County Humane Society (DCHS) provides to all animals. Her legacy to DCHS will live through her gifts and acts of kindness. Our sympathy to her family and friends, especially Coleen for always inviting us to celebrate Ruth and her philanthropy. I got to know Ruth as one of her care giver at St. Mary's Care Center. She made coming to work a joy, knowing you were going to spend time with her. Ruth loved watching sports, she especially enjoyed watching football and her favorite team were the Packers as long as they weren't playing the Oak Land Raiders, then she would root for them, she didn't know why just that she liked them from childhood. She also enjoyed baseball and loved the Brewers. She also never missed a episode of Judge Judy or any of the other Judge shows that aired and we would have great conversations on these with a great laugh. What most impressed me about Ruth though was her Spirituality, the kindness she had towards the community of Madison and Dane County. Ruth was a very caring and giving woman and her believe in God was one of faith and though that faith was able to leave a legacy of herself by making contributions to favorite charities in Dane County. I once asked Ruth if she had any regrets and she said, "just one I never had children." My last conversation with Ruth was on her kindness, she had given to her community and how now she was a Mother of Communities because who is a Mother; but the kindest person we know. Rest in peace Ruth we love you.

We, David Allen and Michael Johnson, lived across the street from Ruth for over 25 years on Sommers Avenue. She was an interesting and delightful neighbor, somewhat private woman and very independent. Over time we helped her in times of need, visited with her whenever she was outside taking care of flowers or her feral cat, Mama Cat. She had a great love for animals in general. Ruth's mother was still living in the house, with Ruth taking care of her at 100 years +. Ruth was very independent and a strong woman in her own way but always kind to everyone, she had many difficult challenges with the loss of her brother and then her mother. She dealt with these issues in her own way on her own . When she had a medical issue and could not return home, we took over caring for her cat for over two years. We would take her pictures of Mama and always had rewarding visits with Ruth while she was a resident of St Mary's Care Center. The transition to St Mary's seemed a challenge for Ruth but she accepted it in a short time and did appreciate the care center and the staff along with the other residents. We missed Ruth in the neighborhood along with many of the other neighbors. Physically Ruth has been taken from us, but her memory will remain and will live within for a long time to come. She was a very good person and will be missed.
