Obituary

MADISON-James "Larry" Day, age 86, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, peacefully at home, surrounded by his family. He was born on Jan. 22, 1930, in Madison, the son of James B. and Margarette Day. Larry married JoAnn Behnke on July 7, 1951, in Madison. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953. Later, Larry earned his associate degree in electronics. He worked for Madison Gas and Electric for 39 years, retiring in 1992. Larry was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed his time working as a Wisconsin Hunter Safety Instructor and was an active member of the Hope Rod and Gun Club in McFarland. Larry is survived by his wife of 65 years, JoAnn; children, Gary (Loretta) Day, Randy (Betsy) Day, and Terri Rindy; grandchildren, Dick (Stacy) Rindy, Chris (Robin) Rindy, Bill (Danielle) Rindy, and Spencer Day; great-grandchildren, Abigail and Cole Rindy, and Madison and Carter Rindy. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Dean Rindy. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2016. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Monday, July 18, 2016, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. Larry lived next door to me for the past twelve years. He was a great neighbor, and I always enjoyed chatting with him. Even as he began to experience health setbacks and physical ailments he continued to get out and stay busy. I found his efforts to not be slowed down to be impressive and inspiring.
