MADISON-Daniel Ronald Winkel, age 65, passed away peacefully at St. Mary's Care Center in Madison, on Tuesday, July 5, 2016. He was born in Sheboygan, Wis., on Aug. 4, 1950, to Henry J. and Albertine S. (Gerhartz) Winkel. Daniel attended Holy Name Grade School and graduated from North High School in 1967. He went on to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 1971. Daniel worked as a bar manager in Madison. He was an avid sports fan. Daniel was a devoted father to his son, Nickolas Daniel Cleary. Daniel is survived by his son, Nickolas; Nickolas' mother, Angela Cleary; his two brothers, Ronald (Mari) Winkel of Farmington, Conn., and Thomas (Frances) Winkel of Delafield, Wis.; and sister-in-law, Patricia Winkel of Sheboygan, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Albertine; and his brother, Wayne Winkel. A Celebration of Daniel's Life will be held at THE ECHO TAP, 554 W. Main St., Madison, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016.

Dan made a lasting memory for me with us going to Milwaukee Brewers home openers for 9 straight years. I always considered him a friend and always looked forward to seeing him around Madison. I now drive for Madison Metro and would see him and his son Nick frequently on the route I drove. The way Dan talked about Nick I could tell how proud he was of him. My condolences for his family.
