Obituary
MCFARLAND – Nancy J. Hovland, age 76, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Agrace Hospice Care after a short illness. At age 4, she was adopted by her late parents, Ole and Anna Hovland. She contracted polio as a child and missed one year of school during her recovery. Nancy resumed her schooling and graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1958. She was a charter member of Buckeye Evangelical Free Church and Door Creek Church. Nancy is survived by her cousins, Edward, Marcus, and Kathleen Gilbertson, and Esther Ellis; and close friends, Cecil Hoover and his daughter, Nanci Hoover. She will be greatly missed by her many friends. A graveside service will be held at RIVERSIDE CEMETERY in Stoughton at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2016. A special thank you to Dawn Smith and Linda Kirshbaum for their loving care of Nancy during the last few years, due to her post-polio syndrome and declining health. Also, a special thank you to the staff at Agrace HospiceCare for their loving and compassionate care. Memorials may be made to your church or your favorite charity.

Although I haven't seen Nancy for years, I have fond memories of growing up next door to Hovland's on the dead end circle of Oak Ct. I remember when she got polio, it was a very scary time for all our parents. Nancy was 5 years older but Bev Schmelzer ( from across the street) and I spend many hours playing Canasta with Nancy when she was recovering and couldn't go outside to play any longer. I'm sorry I didn't know she was ill, I would have loved to see her one last time. Pam Kinney Mather
