Lawrence Eide

MADISON- Lawrence R. Eide, age 89, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2016. He was born on Aug. 15, 1926, the son of Diedrich and Hansine Eide, in Stanley, Wis. Larry graduated from Stanley High School in 1945 and later joined the Army Air Force during WWII. He served 2 years in Central and South America. Upon discharge, he moved to Kansas City, Mo. where he went to radio school and married Joan Stensaas. Larry worked for the Kansas City Police department as a radio operator for ten years during which he attended Finley Engineering School for three years. He later worked for Western Electric as an Engineering Associate and supervisor for 25 years. Larry retired from Lucent in 1985. He enjoyed amateur radio and astronomy. Larry was a lifetime member of VFW Post No. 7591 in Madison, VFW Post No. 7900 in Kansas City and American Legion Post No. 21 in Independence, Mo. In 1990, he attended his class reunion where he met his present wife, Marie Schneider Van Domelen and they were married in 1991. They moved to Madison in 1997. Larry is survived by his wife, Marie; three children, Marsha Villa, Linda Frank and James (Beth) Eide; grandchildren, Denise Haymaker, Lindsey and Michael Frank, Chris and Nicholas Eide; two great-grandchildren, Derek and Ryan Haymaker; five step-children; Margaret (Ken) Jost, Marsha Van Domelen (Phil Schultz), Marshall (Peggy) Van Domelen, Mark (Mary) Van Domelen and Mari (Pat) Buchholz; and 17 step-grandchildren. Larry is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Joan; and grandson, Francisco Villa. Graveside services will be held at a later date at Mount Moriah Cemetery in Kansas City, Mo.
