Obituary
MADISON- Sandra M. "Sandy" Scherer (Briggs), age 76, of Madison, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 28, 2016, at St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by her loved ones. Sandy was born on April 9, 1940, in Madison, the daughter of Lloyd Briggs and Erma Briggs (Bohnsack). She lived in Madison all of her life and graduated from East High School in 1958. Sandy was one of the most loving and accepting people you could ever meet. She was a friend to many and was unconditional in her love and support. Her positive attitude and optimism was contagious and she was generous to everyone she came in contact with. Sandra is survived by her son, Tim (Ilene); daughter, Teri (Ron) Springer; brother, Lloyd (Norma); sister, Linda Miller; grandchildren, Kyle and Stephanie; and three great-grandchildren. Sandra was preceded in death by her mother, Erma; father, Lloyd; and brother, Mark. Equally important to her were her extended family of sons and daughters in law, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins, and stepchildren. One of the most wonderful things about Sandra was the way she loved and included everyone in her life equally. Once you came into Sandys "family", you never left. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 3 P.M. on Tuesday, May 31. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 2 P.M. until the time of the service on Tuesday.

Sandy, my truly extraordinary friend. Sandy and I worked together back in the 1970’s. We had a wonderful working relationship and became fast friends. In those days, we worked hard and played even harder. Such good times. Then there was several years when we lost touch until we ran into each other in the parking lot of Walgreen’s. We picked up right where we left off and vowed we wouldn’t allow that to happen again. Sandy was a true friend. She was my advisor, confidante and cheerleader. We shared so many good times and sad times, and helped each other through everything that came our way. We would go out on marathon lunches that ended when darkness set in and talk on the phone until the batteries went dry. I can’t put my finger on any one thing that gave me so much joy when we got together. I could always depend on Sandy to tell it like it is, and she wouldn’t walk away from me when I told her what I thought (the sign of true and unconditional friendship). Sandy will remain in my heart forever. When I’m trying to make a decision about something, I’ll ask myself “What would Sandy do?” If something funny happens, I’ll know Sandy would be laughing with me. If something sad happens, I’ll know Sandy would be there to support me. If I’m faced with something that I don’t feel confident about, I’ll know Sandy would be there to encourage me. I will truly miss you my extraordinary friend, but I will never forget you and the wonderful friendship we had.

Sandy was a beautiful and very nice woman. Her smile, her laugh... i was probably, at 24 years one of the newest of her friends. She shared her fantastic folks with me, her friends with me... I love you sandy, i wish we could have known each other longer. Rose Burt

Going to miss you my friend. Was sad to hear of your passing. We had a great 40 some years as best friends, especially the time we had with your dad's motor home. We laughed a lot, talked a lot, then suddenly we went from youth to our seventys. I'll never forget the time you called me "BRAT" and the name stuck for a long long time. RIP Sandy. I.will miss you. Although we haven't seen each other in a long time. We did work together for a while at Purchasing. Remember the time I happened to say I lost my pjs and what did you do, for my birthday you gave me a pair of pjs with my name and address embroided on the back. Too funny.. Your strength was what got me through some tough times. You will be missed. My condolences to Tim and Terry.

As soon as Teri brought me into your home when we were little girls, you were 'Mom' to me. Even into my adulthood I would bump into you all over town and you always had that beautiful smile and big hug for me. We would talk and catch up, then say our goodbye's with another big hug and kiss. I will miss you so very much. All my love to Teri and Tim. Love Suzi
