Obituary
MADISON / STOUGHTON-Constance "Connie" Gruebling, age 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 18, 2016. Connie was born on May 30, 1926, in Milwaukee, the eighth child of Mathew and Marie Dettlaff. She enjoyed being a drum majorette at Mercy High School in Milwaukee, while studying voice and dance. In September of 1946, she married Jerome Gruebling. They moved to Madison in 1950 and together enjoyed a romantic marriage until Jerry's death in 1992. Connie's Studio was her drapery business for over 35 years, making draperies for hotels, schools and Marshall Erdman & Associates. During one summer session in the 1960's, 41 employees, the majority being university students, made draperies for all the dormitories on each UW campus which earned her a letter of commendation from President Lyndon Johnson. In the 1980's, she opened an assisted living home and operated it for 15 years. The Gruebling's are founding members of St. Maria Goretti Church. Connie enjoyed organizing church dinners and contributing her home-made polish sausage. Moving to Stoughton in her later years, she appreciated the kindness of the Stoughton cab drivers, all the employees at Stoughton Hospital; especially the emergency room staff, and Skaalen Nursing Home for their extensive assistance and care of Connie. Her final days were blessed with peaceful kindness as an Agrace HospiceCare inpatient in Fitchburg. Connie is survived by her three children; Kim (Gloria) Gruebling, Jeffrey (Cindi) Gruebling and Holly (John) Pitas; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings; and infant granddaughter, Karen Jean Gruebling. Funeral services will be held at ST. ANN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 323 N. Van Buren St., Stoughton, at 6 p.m., on Sunday, April 24, 2016. Private family interment will be held at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 4 p.m. until the time of the service of Sunday. The family wishes to express gratitude to all who friended our enchanting and spicy mother. In lieu of flowers, consider donations to St. Ann Catholic Church or Agrace HospiceCare. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
